LION CUBS 51 KENT 39

BOSS Dave Howard hailed a ‘fantastic team performance’ as Leicester dethroned Kent to return to the top of the National League.‬

Ellis Perks was the star of the show in an action packed night of racing at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena - top scoring with 12 points and breaking the track record in the process.‬

‪All six Leicester riders posted a score of at least six points with only three last places all night the key to victory.‬

‪Howard said: “It was a fantastic team performance with everybody contributing to another home win.‬

‪“We suffered a couple of mishaps throughout the meeting so to still win by 12 points was a brilliant effort.‬

‪“Our focus now turns to Cradley on Tuesday and we can’t take anything for granted heading into a busy period of racing.”‬

‪Skipper Danyon Hume got the Roger Webster Lion Cubs off to a winning start with a tapes to flag opening heat victory.‬

‪Kent reserve Jacob Clouting then rounded Ryan Terry-Daley for the away sides first race win of the night.‬

‪A second shared heat followed with Joe Thompson capitalising on a Dan Gilkes mistake to take the chequered flag.‬

‪Ellis Perks then smashed the National League track record as he got the better of British youngster Drew Kemp.‬

‪Roger Webster Lion Cubs then hit the first 5-1 maximum of the night courtesy of Hume and recent recruit Josh Embleton - taking advantage of a Kemp fall.‬

‪The away side then picked up their first heat advantage with Gilkes cruising to victory following an awkward fall for Perks whilst leading.‬

‪Leicester began to take control of the meeting with a second 5-1 in three races as guest Matt Marson got the better of David Wallinger in a tight first corner to extend the home sides lead to 10.‬

‪Kent boss Chris Hunt then played his tactical substitute to perfection with Anders Rowe partnering Kemp to a first Kings maximum.‬

‪From a 15 metre handicap, Perks produced a stunning ride to work his way through the field and pass Rowe on the run to the line after a tight battle with Wallinger on the opening lap.‬

‪In the following heat, ‬Dan Gilkes rode to an impressive heat win to keep the visitors in touching distance of the Lion Cubs with three heats remaining.

Victory was sealed in the penultimate heat with Marson and Embleton packing the minor places to put the tie out of reach for the away side.

Perks and Hume then signed off in fine style to send Kent home empty handed and push Leicester to the top of the table.

Roger Webster Lion Cubs return to action in three days time (Tuesday, 7.30) when Cradley are the visitors to the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.
